New $1,000 Challenge Match!
An anonymous donor has generously offered to match the next $1,000 in gifts to the Marie’s Garden project. Double your impact by making a gift now to help us reach our goal of $10,000.
We hope that you will join us in this special project to commemorate our dear friend and Douglass alumna, Marie Sabaitis Bynum, Class of ‘81. Sadly, Marie’s life ended much too soon; we’ve missed her greatly, especially her endearing smile and laugh. She left an abiding legacy of family, friends, and love, touching many in her short time. Now we have an opportunity to create a lasting testimonial to her, on the grounds of Douglass.
Our initial outreach was to classmates and the Douglass students who were lucky enough to have Marie as their Resident Advisor. Now we are seeking all friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues, as well as Douglas alumnae, who knew Marie and would like to join in commemorating her in this special way.
Together we can create “Marie’s Garden” as an outdoor terrace and garden area at the newly renovated Carpender Hall, a historic building centrally located at the college, directly across from the Student Center and next to the library - along a path that many of us have walked. Carpender Hall houses key Douglass programs and has become a main crossroads for students.
Marie’s Garden will be a serene place for students and staff to enjoy; a tranquil spot for meetings, rest, conversation, brainstorming, and sharing for all.
Please consider joining us with your gift. With your help, we can design and create Marie’s Garden for completion this spring. Our goal is to raise $10,000, which will allow for the paving and landscaping for Marie’s Garden, along with some outdoor furniture. We look forward to gathering with you at Carpender Hall to dedicate and enjoy this new space in memory of Marie. A well-deserved celebration of a life well-lived!
Your gift will help with the paving and other repair and enhancements for the garden.
